Badaling is a mission found in Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.

Briefing[]

A massive engineering project is underway. Our venerated emperor, Shi Huangdi has ordered that a long wall, measuring 10,000 li from eastern coast to western desert be erected along the northern border. Being a proven and able administrator, you have been appointed to construct a critical section of this great wall. Once complete, it will serve as a solid impenetrable barrier, protecting the northern commanderies -- indeed, the entire empire -- from incursions by despoiling northern barbarians.

Your first priority should be to establish one, or perhaps several, settlements for the influx of workers expected shortly. Once the peasants have arrived, put up some laborers' camps at appropriate intervals, connected by roads to the wall's construction site, that has already been marked by engineers. Use the abundant natural resources found in the area to construct the wall.

Meanwhile, do not neglect your defenses, as Xiongnu never sleep.

Goals[]

  • Earthen Great Wall must be built

Summary[]

The only goal for this mission is to complete the Earthen Great Wall. However, to ensure that the monument runs at a good place, a lot of workers are going to be needed.

You can grow three food types, so there is no real purpose in hunting the Pheasants in the north section of the map. Iron can be found in abundance and you can also make Ceramics. Four cities are already trading with you and, unless you intend to construct Elite Housing, there is no real need to open other trading partners.

The bulk of your city should be in the southern part, towards the iron. Evolving the housing up to Elegant Dwelling (the highest possible because there is no Acupuncturist's Clinic available) provides the most workers so that you can build many Labourer's Camps. You'll need a lot of camps if you want to ensure the monument completes quickly.

If you fail to build the city quickly, then there are a couple of small invasions from the Nomad Camps later in the mission. A single fort and some towers will probably be enough to keep the city safe: it is recommended to send a spy to sabotage their military so they cannot send a larger force before the invasion notice comes around. If the invasion is too large, you will fail the mission (no vassalhood allowed)

Once your city is stable, it's simple a matter of waiting while the labourer's complete the wall, allowing you to win the mission!
